Federal Capital Territory Administration

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is the governing authority responsible for the planning, administration, and development of Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory. Established as part of the Federal Government’s administrative reforms, the FCTA was designed to reposition the capital for world-class service delivery and infrastructure development. The FCTA is tasked with providing efficient governance, critical infrastructure, and public services, in line with its mission to make Abuja one of the top 20 world-class capital cities globally. Reforms and Structure

The FCTA’s establishment and structure stem from the administrative reforms initiated by President Olusegun Obasanjo. These reforms introduced significant changes, including the creation of Seven (7) Mandate Secretariats, which brought governance closer to the people and reduced administrative bottlenecks.

The mandates of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) define its strategic direction and guide its efforts in building a functional, inclusive, and modern capital city.

  • Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello (2015 – 2023)
  • Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike (2023 – Present)

Legal Framework

Under Section 299 of the 1999 Constitution, the Federal Capital Territory is treated as a state of the federation. Accordingly:
